What is Motivation? Motivation is a process that initiates, guides and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. It is the fuel that drives an individual to accomplish a task. Motivation can be either intrinsic or extrinsic. Motivation task is driven not by the pleasure derived from the task but by the reward or punishment associated with it. It can include anything from bonuses, promotions, and other incentives. Extrinsic motivation can be helpful in the short-term, but it is rarely sustainable in the long run. Intrinsic motivation is when a person is motivated by the satisfaction they derive from doing a task itself. Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, is when a person is motivated by a reward or a consequence that is given for completing a task.
