Present Perfect Progressive
Definition
Present perfect progressive emphasizes the moment of time that an action has been taking place. This tense is used to describe those activities that started in past and continues in present.
Usage of tense
1. In this tense we use fourth form of verb as a main verb.
2. In this tense we use has been and have been as aiding action word.
3. Has been used for singular subjects she, he, it and singular noun.
4. Have been is utilized for plural subjects you, they, we and two names but for I subject we use have been too.
5. Has not been and have not been are used in negative sentence.
6. We utilize since and for in this tense.
7. Since is used for starting point of time while for is used for duration of time.
Positive formula with Samples
Subject + aiding action words+ fourth form of verb + Object
1. We have been playing hockey since morning.
2. She has been waiting for me since evening.
3. He has been living in this house since 1998.
4. They have been reading books for four hours.
5. I have been studying in this college for two years.
Negative formula with Samples
Subject + Aiding action words+ not + fourth form of verb + Object
1. We have not been playing hockey since morning.
2. She has not been waiting for me since evening.
3. He has not been living in this house since 1998.
4. They have not been reading books for four hours.
5. I have not been studying in this college for two years
Interrogative Formula with Samples
Aiding action words + Subject + forth form of verb + Object
1. Have we been playing hockey since morning?
2. Has she been waiting for me since evening?
